About Nettie Hancock Douglass
Netting Washington, 65, Kin of B. T. Washington, Frederick Douglass, Dies Mrs. Nettie Washington Douglass, 65, the granddaughter of noted educator Booker T. Washington, who taught at Sousa Junior High School in Washington, D. C., for 20 years before retiring in 1979, died recently of cancer at her home in Bethesda, Md. She was also widow of Dr. Frederick Douglass III, a physician and great-grandson of Black activist and journalist Frederick Douglass who died in 1941. A native of Tuskegee, Ala., Mrs. Douglass was a graduate of New York University and did graduate study at American University. Mrs Douglass was a volunteer worker with the Red Cross of Bethesda Naval Hospital and advisor on the Frederick Douglass Scholarship Fund at American University. Before moving to the District, she worked as a social worker in Los Angeles County, Calif., for about five years. Survivors include a daughter, Nettie Douglass Morris.
