Pvt. Neverson Columbus Winstead C.S.A. He was born at Winstead's Crossing, Nash County, North Carolina. His parents were James William and Elizabeth Winstead (Deans).
His enlistment date in the War Between the States was on 7 July 1862. Neverson was a private in Company H., 7th Calvary (Claiborne's Regiment of Partisan Rangers) and Company F, North Carolina 16th Cavalry Battalion on 11 July 1864. He died on 26 November 1912, and is buried at the Neverson Columbus Winstead Cemetery.
He married Mary Ann Wells Pridgen, a war widow on 2 January 1868. Neverson and Mary Ann had 11 children, and helped raise her son, Josiah Joseph Pridgen Jr.
