About Niklaus Hauri
Niklaus Hauri (Nicholaus Hovri) was mentioned in a 19 January 1303 charter (Bern, No. 107) as owing 8 shillings annually for his farmstead ("Schuppose", typically about 30 acres) (in Erlon?) at Steffisburg, when Walter ab der Matten renounced any claims he might have to lands given by his father Werner von Steffisburg to Kloster Interlaken. This document was executed at Thun, which originally belonged to Ulrich III von Kyburg (1218), from whom it passed to the Habsburg-Kyburgs on the death of Hartmann V von Kyburg (1263), who sold it to the city of Bern (1384).
