Noah was the first of 13 children born to Noah Carpenter Sr. and Sarah Johnson. His father was a farmer and a linen wheel-maker, as well as a Freemason, town clerk, and proprietors' clerk. His mother was the daughter of Matthew Johnson and the granddaughter of Edward Johnson of Hernehill, Co. Kent, England who came over to Puritan America with Governor John Winthrop in 1630.
On Jun 6, 1728, Noah married Persis Follett in Attleboro. Together, they had four children, all born at Attleboro:
