MONTPELIER, Idaho - Norma Rogers Roghaar, 87, passed away on Thursday, March 26th, 2009, at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center from heart failure. She was born May 2, 1921, in Paris, Idaho, to Charles Frederick Rogers and Lucile Sarah Low Rogers. She was raised in Paris, Idaho, and lived in the Bear Lake Valley for most of her life with the exception of brief residences in Salt Lake City, Utah; Grace, Idaho; Coalville, Utah; and New York City, New York.
Norma married Ralph Roghaar on November 6, 1943, in Paris, Idaho. They were later sealed for time and all eternity on September 11, 1947, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised four children: Sandra Kay Roghaar Passey (Rayo), Ralph Roger Roghaar (deceased), Bradley Norman Roghaar (Teresa) and Tracey Roghaar Michie (Eric). She was employed at The Land Office in Grace, Idaho, and at Macy's Department Store in New York City during World War II. She was also employed at The Selective Service, Grimmett Lumber, Bear Lake County School District, Allingers, Tapper Chevrolet, and Barrett Insurance.
Norma was an active member of the LDS Church serving in the capacity of Relief Society Secretary, Stake Relief Society Counselor, Stake Missionary and Primary Counselor, but her favorite calling was as the Primary Pianist. She was an avid Jazz fan, loved music, traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of the Paris Literary Club.
Norma is survived by her children, Sandra of Paris, Idaho; Bradley of Ogden, Utah; and Tracey of Syracuse, Utah; 18 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren; her sister Avon Arnell (DuWayne); several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Scot and sister Helen, her husband Ralph and her son Roger.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 31st, at Matthews Mortuary in Montpelier from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and 1 hour prior to services on Wednesday, April 1st, at the Montpelier Fourth Ward Chapel. The funeral will be held at 12 noon at the chapel. Interment will be in the Paris, Idaho, cemetery.
