About ONG Ee Lim
Eldest son - Ong Ee Lim was the millionaire proprietor of the Prince’s Theatre in Kuala Lumpur and the Ruby Theatre in Ipoh. He was the first Chinese in Malaya to own a private airplane, the Puss-Moth, a three-seater monoplane which was used to film a section of the route for the London-Melbourne air race. In 1934, it was reported that his pilot Mr Loke Yaik Foo flew the plane from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore, landing at the air base at 9am in time for Ong and his friend the Selangor tennis champion Mr Ong Ee Kong to attend the races in the afternoon.
Ong was also the first (and only) passenger on the inaugural Imperial Airways mail flight from Penang to Hong Kong in 1936. Upon his arrival, he was greeted by Sir Andrew Caldecott, Governor of Hong Kong, and a crowd of several thousands.
