Obituary- Ocie Marie Shaffer Waynesburg Funeral Home, Bookstore Employee

Ocie Marie (nee Newell) Shaffer, 80, of Waynesburg, died at 12:40 p.m. Monday, October 18, 1999, in Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg, after being in failing health for the past several years.

She was born January 31, 1919, in Mannington, West Virginia, a daughter of James Turner Newell and Ida May (nee Michael) Newell.

Mrs. Shaffer was a resident of the Waynesburg area since 1940, and was a member of Hallam Lighthouse Mission in Collier.

She was employed by the former Jerry Church Funeral Home in Waynesburg and the Bishop Creamery, was caretaker of the elderly in the Waynesburg area for several years and was last employed by Juanita Thompson at the Thompson Christian Book Store.

Surviving are four daughters, Grace L. (nee Shaffer) Lingenfield of Washington, Katharine Ann Tenerio of Guam, Martha Ellen Herod of Greensboro and Helen Marie Strope of Rogersville; two brothers, James J. Newell of Hillsboro, Ohio, and Lawrence A. Newell of Whites Creek, Tennessee; 15 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.

Mrs. Shaffer was preceded in death by a brother, Marvlen Newell; and a grandson, Jeffrey Baxter Lingenfield.

NEWELL - Friends of Ocie Marie (Newell) Shaffer of Waynesburg, who died on Monday, October 18, 1999, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Rush Funeral Home Incorporated, Rogersville, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 22, 1999, with Pastor Brad Hallam officiating. Interment will follow in the Rosemont Cemetery, Center Township.
