Golden Wedding Celebrated Thursday

Mr & Mrs Ole P Wahin Celebrate Half Century of Wedded Life.

About two hundred invited guests helped Mr & Mrs Ole P Wahlin celebrate their Fiftieth Anniversary of their wedding last Thursday, April 9th at the Christine Lake Lutheran church. By 12 o'clock the guests were assembled and the wedding couple was invited to come to the church. Upon their arrival a sumptuous dinner was served.

At 2 o'clock the festive program was rendered. Speeches were made by Mr Nils Lang, was was present at the wedding fifty years ago, and the pastor, Rev Constant Johnson. The Christine Lake choir sang two songs appropriate to the occasion. The couple was presented with a handsome gift in gold. Mr Wahlin responded briefly, thanking the people for this expression of love and friendship. Refreshments were served after the program also.

Mr & Mrs Wahlin were married by Rev S J Kronberg at the Wahlin home, April 9, 1875. Mr Wahin is a charter member of the Christine Lake Lutheran Church.

  • ************************************************ OLOF P WAHLIN Olof P Wahlin, one of the early pioneers in Lund Township and the last charter member of the Christine Lake church, passed away at his home last Saturday evening, Jan 29, at the age of 81 years, 6 months and 10 days. He was born in Lund, Sweden, July 19, 1845 and came to America in 1869. He settled in Lund township, where the family has lived since. On April 9, 1875 he was united in marriage to Maria Anderson, who has been a faithful and devoeted helpmate to him during these many years. Ten children ??dened the home, three of whom are dead. Mr Wahlin became a member of the Christine Lake church at its organization July, 24, 1871, and remained a member until death. He has served his church as trustee, treasure and in other capacites. He seemingly had a premonition of his death, stating several times that he would not live through the winter. Having found peace in Jesus he was joyously waiting for the summons to depart. The following survive to mourn him: his wife, seven children Carl, Ida, (Mrs Victor Meliander) and Edwin of Goodrige, MN; Fritz of Fertile, MN; ALma (Mrs Gustaf Berglund), Anna (Mrs Anton Berglund) and Hans of this community; one brother Jacob of Sedalia, MN and one sister in Sweden; twenty-six grandchildren and a large number of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held in the Christine Lake church Wednesday, Feb 2. Pastor Constant Johnson officiating. The choir sang two songs. The church was filled to capacity.
