Olli Juhonpoika Rissanen was born in Nurmes, North Karelia on the 17th of June 1863 as the second eldest child of Juho and Anna Stiina Rissanen. He had nine younger siblings, three brothers and six sisters, and one elder brother.
He was wedded to Ida Mustonen on the 5th of August 1888 and the couple had six children before they moved to Kotka in the beginning of 20th century. In Kotka the life was in many ways easier because there you were able to work as saw worker and the saw in Hovinsaari was growing all the time.
In Kotka Olli and Ida got four children more and the growing family lived in Hovinsaari, close to the saw.
Olli Rissanen died in Kotka on the 23rd of December 1925 at the age of 62. He was buried to the Parikka Cemetery in Kotka.
