The oldest son of William and Mary Arthurholtz was born in 1921. Marley grew up in St. Joseph County, Indiana, and was living in South Bend at the time of his enlistment.

Enlistment and Boot Camp: Arthurholtz enlisted on July 22, 1940 and attended boot camp at MCRD San Diego. He served with the depot’s Headquarters company for a month before being accepted into Sea School.

Service prior to 1941: Private Arthurholtz joined the Marine detachment aboard the USS Oklahoma in October, 1940.

Wartime Service: Arthurholtz was advanced to the rank of PFC on April 21, 1941.

Date Of Loss: PFC Marley Arthurholtz was killed in the attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941.

Next Of Kin: (1) Mother, Mrs. Mary Arthurholtz

Status Of Remains: Unknown. Arthurholtz was either lost at sea, or buried as an unknown in a mass grave when the ship was raised for salvage in 1943.
