About Patricia Ann Scoggin
I was the first Worthy Advisor of the International Rainbow Girls in Gibson City, Illinois in 1963. Everything was accomplished in one afternoon--institution of organization, initiation, and installation of officers. It was a very hot and long day!!!
Married: 12/6/1967 to James Scoggin; Divorced: 5/1969
Became interested in how I was related to all of my cousins, aunts and uncles after the movie "Roots". Finally got much of what I have on paper with family info into a computer program when I got my iMac and the Reunion program in 2008 (joined the 21st century with the internet also at that time!). Still have several branches that I haven't gotten into the system. Enjoy the challenge of finding ancestors and some of their stories. Since joining Geni, I didn't realize how many cousins I really have!!!
Went from lawyer's office to the Naval Recruiting Office in Champaign & joined the Navy after my divorce. Went to Chicago to be sworn in. Basic training at Naval Base in Newport, RI. First time flying in a large plane. First part of flight was smooth, but the last leg was in a small plane and the weather made it a rough ride as rainy weather! Was very glad that the first part was so smooth as wasn't scared when the weather became so rough on the last leg of my trip!!!!
Navy Nurse from July 1969-February 1979; Stationed at: National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland; Naval Hospital, Tiapai, Tiawan; Naval Medical Center, Key West, Florida; Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, VA
Lived in Virginia Beach, VA when got out of the Navy. After mother (Cecelia Anderson Hawthorne) died, moved to Springfield, Missouri so would be about 1/2 way between where my brother, Roger, & sister, Sandy lived at the time. Roger lived in Muscatine, Iowa and Sandy lived in Maurice, Louisiana. Frequently went to visit Roger for Christmas as it was only about 8-9 hour drive and 12-13 hour drive to Sandy’s.
Went to Southwest Missouri State University but couldn’t make up my mind on what I wanted to major in so kept taking General Ed classes, eventually graduated with Associates of Arts in General Studies. Then in 1987 moved to Phoenix, AZ to go to Phoenix Therapeutic Massage College so I would have an alternative to nursing. However, didn’t have enough regular/steady customers to make a living doing massages, so had to go back to working as a nurse. While in Arizona, worked in Long Term Care/Subacute environments in Nursing Homes and retired in 2011.
Now that I am retired, I have been doing a lot of reading and spending more time working on the family tree, focusing on my mom's side of the family as a cousin worked on updating my dad's Norwegian side of the family bringing all of the cousins & their children to 2011.
