Chart from "The Clan Mackay" - families of McKee or McKie or Mackie living in Galloway; "The Book of Mackay" p 355 says James was "of Crosbie" Sasine 1691 mentions James and Robert

History of the Lands and Their Owners in Galloway states that Patrick of Barjarock was the brother of Robert Makie of Corsbie, who was father of John M'Kie in Penninghame, who succeeded. However, the years do not work, and Book of Mackay states that Patrick was the brother of James of Crosbie.

Patrick M'KIE BIRTH: ABT 1610, of Larg, Minnigaff, Kirkcudbright, Scotland

 DEATH: BEF 1680, of Larg, Minnigaff, Kirkcudbright, Scotland
  • +John M'KIE Sasine 1664, 1673

"Book of Mackay" states: "Patrick was infeft in Larg in 1662, and had a son John (Galloway Charters)...Patrick and John, father and son were fined for their Covenanting principles, forfeiting their estate in 1680, which came into the administration of the Duke of Queensberry. After the Revolution the estate was restord to John of Penninghame, great-great-grandson of Alexander V."

History of the Lands and Their Owners in Galloway, v 4, p 408, states that Sir Patrick was succeeded by Patrick M'Kie. The degree of relationship is not mentioned. On Jan 22, 1664, he had sasine of the lands and barony of Larg.

He is described as the son of Patrick M'Kie of Barjarrock. He was fined about 1660 by the Privy Council (L260) for his adherence to the Presbyterian Church (he was called Patrick M'Ghie of Largie). On 25 May 1664 there was a reversion by Archibald M'Kie in Stronard to Patrick M'Kie of Larg of the land of Stronard. Archibald probably was a brother or near kinsman. Again in June, 1666, there was a reversion by James M'Crae in Palmerstoun to Patrick M'Kie of Larg of the lands of Clongairt, Largspark, etc. He was succeeded by John M'Kie, who probably was his son.

He was the M'Ghie or M'Kie of Larg, who, on the 2d April 1679 was outlawed by the Prelatic Committee for not appearing before them when summoned. He was again called 18th Feb 1680, before the Justiciary Court, and not appearing, was sentenced to be executed when taken, and his property confiscated to his Majesty's (Charles II) use. He happened to be dead when this was issued. His land was then forfeited and seized by the Duke of Queensberry and put in the charge of Hugh Wallace of Ingliston, who kept them in his own possession until the Revolution.

  • +William M'KIE Cordiner

"The Book of Mackay" pp 353- 355 states that the three leading M'Kies, John of Alrg, Anthony of Glencaird, and Alexr. of Drumbuie, were condemned to death, but escaped with the loss of their lands. History of the Lands and their Owners in Galloway 941.49 H2m V 4, pg 448;

Book of Mackay p 357 states "a son [of Alexander and his wife Katherine Agnew] who had three sons (Alexr.; Patrick, who succeeded to Larg, 1646; and James of Crosbie, who had a son Robert, whose son John in 1691 succeeded to Larg and Palgown)." This is probably in error, since the Inquisition lists James of Crosbie's father as Patrick, Baillie of Minnigaff. Editors have accepted the Inquisition.
