Patrick joined the AIF in 1916. It would seem that he was a bit of a conman as the Police Gazette records him as having numerous aliases suchas James Collins, James Ryan, James Cody, James Nolan etc. He married his wife in Fremantle in 1914 and some of his sisters were also living in North Perth at this time near their Western Australian Bloomer relatives. They had firstly lived in South Australia then Victoria and after the first World War Patrick and his wife returned to south Australia. Patrick died in Victoria.
