Deerfield Routs Hustisford Preps DEERFIELD - Deerfield high's gridders rolled over Hustisford, 51-6, here Friday night for their second straight Suburban Six-Man League victory.

Deerfield scored 26 points in the first period and 19 in the second as it routed Hustosford. Buzz Wilhelm scored three touchdowns on runs of 19, 25, and 65 yards, the latter being a kickoff return. Paul Thorstad intercepted two passes and ran 25 and 20 yards for his markers. Ron Krohn ran 40 yards for the Hustisford tally.

Calder-Thorstad nuptials held in Deerfield Church

DEERFIELD - Deerfield Lutheran Church was the setting at 2 p.m. Satruday for the wedding of Miss Shirley Ann Calder and Paul B. Thorstad. The Rev. E. J. Tetlie officiated.

The bride's parents are the Leon Calders and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Thorstad, all of Deerfield.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a floor-length gown of lace-trimmed silk mist taffeta with an Italian neckline and a sweep train. A pearl crown held her veil, and she carried yellow button chrysanthemums.

Miss June Calder, the maid of honor, wore jade green, and the bridesmaids, Mrs. Eugene Halverson, Mrs. Leonard Anderson, and Mrs. Ronald Bennay, champagne. The cocktail dresses of taffeta and lace had cummerbunds and the attendants wore crowns of bronze chrysanthemums and carried similar flowers.

Howard Thorstad was best mand and Eugene Halverson, Philip Aaholm, and David Gullixon ushered.

A reception was held in Deerfield Fellowship hall.

The newlyweds will live in Deerfield. She is employed at Farmers Mutual; he is engaged in farming.

Bowled a 548 in 1961. Bowled a 545 in October 1962. Bowled a 563 in September, 1975. DEERFIELD - Paul B. Thorstad, age 81, passed away on Wed June 6, 2018 after a brief illness. He was born in Madison on Nov 21, 1936, the son of Emil and Mabel (Berge) Thorstad. Paul graduated from Deerfield High School in 1954. On Oct 27, 1956 he married Shirley Calder at Deerfield Lutheran Church. He farmed for many years in Deerfield until moving to town in 1973, he then worked for many years at Royal Publishing before his retirement. He loved music, and playing his guitar for family and friends. Playing with his grandchildren and taking long walks in the woods with his family was a special time. Paul loved to grill and garden. He is survived by his three children, Jane (Dan) Kelly, Dan (Kathy), and Rick (Terrie); nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sister Lois Anderson; brother-in-law Tim Rideout. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Howard (Lorraine) Thorstad; brother-in-law Leonard Anderson; sisters-in-law Carol Jean (Eugene) Halverson and June Gullixson Rideout; brother-in-law Dave Gullixson; niece Patti Hoffland. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday June 12, 2018 at DEERFIELD LUTHERAN CHURCH, 206 S. Main St. Deerfield, with Rev. Larry Sexe presiding. Burial will follow in Deerfield Lutheran Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon, following the burial, in the church fellowship hall. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or to Jefferson Memory Care. A special thank you to the staff of Jefferson Memory Care for their patience and care.
