DEATH DUE TO MINE ACCIDENT
Verdict of Jury in the Case of Paul Barac
Paul Barac, aged about 35, met almost instant death while at work in the No. 15 shaft of the Hecla mine about 4 o’clock yesterday afternoon.
Barac was resting on a tramcar at the plat on the 25th level, when a descending skip struck the car and drew it into the shaft. It is supposed that the car had been pushed so far that it protruded into the shaft, and the skip was lowered before Barac knew of the circumstances. He was drawn into the shaft and badly mangled. The body was found beneath the skip.
Coroner William Fisher impaneled the following jury, R.M. Wetzel, Norman McAulay, John M. George, D.A. Melver, Joshua Wareham and Albert Sincock. After hearing the testimony, a verdict was returned that Barac’s death was due to the unexpected lowing and raising of the skip at the 25th level.
The deceased was a married man and is survived by five children, all of whom are with their mother in Austria. He was a member of several local fraternal societies. The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o’clock from the St. John’s Croatian church, with interment in Lake View Cemetery.
