About Pendleton Monroe Isbell

Confederate Civil War soldier. Company B, 3rd Tennessee Mounted Infantry. First cousin of Pendleton Monroe Isbell (1842-1896), a Union soldier who is buried in the same cemetery.

Grandson of John Miller Isbell, the son and grandson of Zachariah Isbell Jr. and Sr., Revolutionary War soldiers and pioneer settlers of Tennessee (First Families of Tennessee). Zach Jr. was a first cousin of Henry Jr's son, Capt. Pendleton Isbell, Revolutionary War officer and a member of George Washington's Guard.

Pendleton Monroe Isbell and Nancy Dean Gunn married 28 December 1859 in Monroe County, Tennessee. After her death, he married Amanda Jane Howard Bird.

The Sweetwater Telephone, Thursday, March 9, 1905: "Pent Isbell, one of the oldest and best known citizens of the county, died Tuesday night at nine o'clock, at the residence of John McDaniel, near Gaines' School House. Deceased was 75 years of age, and was a familiar character in this section. He was an ex-Confederate soldier."
