Percy Coward

Percy Coward was born in 1883 in Coniston, the only child of Joseph Coward and his first wife, Agnes Jane. His mother most likely died in childbirth, as their birth and death years coincide.

In the 1891 census, he can be found living with his grandfather, Thomas Shuttleworth, and most likely lived with them until his father's remarriage to Agnes Bowness in 1893. He can be found in subsequent censuses living with his half-sisters, Lily and Florence, his father and his stepmother. Like his father and grandfather before him, Percy was a joiner, and most likely learned the family trade from his father.

Percy married Mary Elizabeth Mason in 1916 in her hometown of Barrow in Furness. They had five children, the youngest of which was born in 1925, the year of his death. He is buried with his wife and his youngest child, who died shortly after his birth in 1926.
