About Percy Orr
One of six brothers who served in WW1, two died.
KILLED IN QUARRY WORKER STRUCK BY ROCK TE KUITI, Friday
Struck by a falling rock while working at a quarry just south of Te Kuiti, a quarry worker was killed instantly. He was Mr Percy Orr, aged 50, labourer, married, of Hinerangi Street, Te Kuiti
Mr Orr was inserting charges in preparation for blasting and was standing at the base of a rock cliff in the quarry when a piece of rock fell from the top of the cliff. It struck him on the head. Deceased enlisted at an early age in the last war. During his service overseas and following his return he gained wide recognition as a sportsman. He was best known as a runner and axeman. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
