Danville (IA) -- Perry Newton DeSpain, 81, operator of the Danville locker plant, died of a heart attack while at work April 21.
DeSpain was the son of Newton and Nancy Hanks DeSpain and was born near New London on August 29, 1888. On New Year's Day, 1910, he was married at Pleasant Grove to Elizabeth Miller, and for many years they farmed northeast of New London.
DeSpain later became associated with Willis Holland in the operation of the New London Locker plant, and 2½ years ago he founded his own plant at Danville.
DeSpain was a member of the Danville Methodist church and of Christy lodge 56, I.O.O.F., of New London.
Surviving are the widow and sons: Ralph DeSpain, New London, Willis DeSpain, Mediapolis, and Glen and Lorrain DeSpain, both of Danville.
Also surviving are a brother, Ernest DeSpain, New London, and 4 grandchildren.
Services will be held at the Elliott Chapel, In New London, at 3 p.m. Sunday. Officiating will be Reverend Harold Olson, pastor of the Danville Methodist church. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove cemetery.
