About Perry Donald Latta
Perry Latta, oldest son of Warren J. and Hattie (Robbins) Latta was born May 9, 1891 at Davis City, Iowa and died at Dayton, Ohio February 7, 1968. He grew to manhood in New Buda, Iowa and received his education in the rural school. He helped his father in a blacksmith and machine shop and followed this occupation. On November 27, 1912, he was united in marriage to Nellie Vandel at Leon, Iowa and to this union 5 children were born, all of whom survive. He enlisted in the army in February, 1918, and landed in France in May of that year. He was assigned to Co. A., 124th Machine Gun Battalion and fought in several major battles. He received a citation, the Silver Star, for gallantry in action in the MeuseArgonne offensive. He returned home in May, 1919. He was a charter member and past commander of V.F.W. Post 3778 in Leon and held a continuous membership in Garden Grove American Legion Post. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, eight brothers and one sister. Surviving are his children: Lenore McLain and Donald Latta, Dayton, Ohio; Virginia Willis, Leon; Robert Latta, Albany, Ore.; and Nancy Dobson, Des Moines; 11 grandchildren; one great grandchild; three sisters: Mrs. Belle Vandel, San Francisco, Calif.; Mrs. Alice Tellier, Mariposa, Calif.; and Mrs. Maude Wishon, Denver, Colo.; other relatives and friends.
