About Peter Arant, Sr.

He settled in Chesterfield District of South Carolina before the Revolutionary War. Peter Arrant: While residing in Chesterfield District, South Carolina he was called into service under Capt. Thomas McManus of the militia. His first engagement was at Lynch's Creek against the Tories. Later, he joined George Taylor and Gen. Marion. Title: 28 South Carolina Roster

He is in the Chesterfield District, South Carolina census for the years of 1790, 1800, 1820 and 1830.

Shortly after 1800 Peter and his brother, Jacob, dropped one "r" from the name and from then one was known by the name Arant. Most of the Arants in this country are descendants of Peter or Jacob.
