Peter DeMoss born 1752 New Jersery, is often confused with Peter DeMoss born 1751 Virginia; the Peter who was at Valley Forge with Washington, is known as "Peter, the soldier", while Peter of 1751 settled in Ohio, supplied the Revolutionary Army and became known as "Peter, the supplier". Both are recognized by the DAR as Patriots;

After Gen. George Washington was defeated by Howe at Germantown, the 12th Virginia Regiment wintered at Valley Forge; Peter and his brothers, Andrew and John, were documented at Valley Forge with Washington; Peter was also documented being in the battle of Monmouth and given furlough afterwards. When he returned to his company, Cornwallis had surrendered to George Washington and Peter was allowed to return home. Peter and his family lived in Berkeley County, Virginia, (now W. Virginia), Mason County, KY, Clermont County, Ohio, and settled finally in Pendleton County, KY. Peter DeMoss died Sept. 27, 1841, and according to the obituary written by L. M. Wilcoxen of Moscow, Ohio, Peter was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church nearly 30 years and was survived by seventy-four grandchildren.

Married to Lucinda 'Lucy' Chapel DeMoss on 5 Jan 1787 in New Kent, Virginia. They had 8 children: Peter in 1788, Dorothy in 1790, Susanna in 1793, Sarah in 1796, John in 1798, Charles in 1800, Lucy in 1803 and Mary in 1807. He enlisted in infantry in company under Andrew Waggoner in 12th Virginia Regiment, Col James Wood, 1776. Battles of Camden, S.C. and after this he was transferred to the 4th Regt of Virginia Line. Employed as a wagoner to transport the baggage of the French under the command of Lafayette. He was also in the battle of Brandywine, Germantown and Monmouth.
