Peter Hackland (1952 - 2013)

Brief overview:

Peter (61), of Cromleigh Farm in Carisbrook, Ixopo, was contemplating retirement when he was shot dead on May 7th 2013, in his house by two men pretending to be job hunters.

They accosted his daughter and domestic helper while Hackland was working on the farm.
Provincial police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said police believe the motive for Hackland’s murder was robbery, as the men took cash before fleeing.

All of the information in this entry was supplied me in 1973 by my uncle Alan Hackland who spent many years collecting it and checking it for accuracy. He did this over a period of time, both from South Africa by post and during his annual leave which in many instances was spent in the Orkneys' travelling round, asking questions of residents some of whom were our relatives, and also checking Parish, military, municipal and village records.

Alan also spent time recording details of the Hackland family who moved to Africa, updating this as far as he could at the time. Alan so very aptly dubbed his work "THE HACKTREE"

It is only due to his tenacity that we have these records and I am honoured to be able to use them to create our family tree.

You will notice that I have taken the liberty to add the family of my father.
