About Peter Needham
Peter Needham (then Peter Niethammer) was rescued from Prague on 12 January 1939 by the Barbican Mission to the Jews (BMJ), with the help of Nicholas Winton, one of the organizers of the Kindertransport.
He appears on the film that is kept at the USHMM (https://collections.ushmm.org/search/catalog/irn1000675) which gave rise to a Czech TV documentary on the Barbican Mission. There are several pictures of that event where Peter is identified.
The rescued children reunited in January 1989 in Chislehurst, Kent. On this occasion they donated a bench with a plaque that reads “Rev. & Mrs. I.E. Davidson & Friends – gratefully remembered by all the BMJ children (68 of them rescued from Central Europe 1939). Vera Barron (born Altmann), who was on the second flight, organized a book “Golden Memories 1939-1989)” . The book has photographs and I Peter in one of them.
He also gave an inteview (https://www.ajrrefugeevoices.org.uk/RefugeeVoices/Peter-Needham) and there are two other references to him at https://www.ajrrefugeevoices.org.uk/RefugeeVoices/Ilse-Ryder and https://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/hometruths/0241ilse.shtml.
