Peter Prudden

He was born circa 1722. He was married first to Joanna (surname not known); they were members and founders of the First Presbyterian Church in Morristown, NJ., as listed in church records in August 1742. Peter married second to Rhoda Condit on February 6, 1763. Peter wrote a will in Morris County, New Jersey on April 13, 1777 (see below), which names his wife, Rhoda, and his two children, Peter and Johanna. Peter was buried April 21, 1777 and his will was proved May 3, 1777.

His will is found in New Jersey Calendar of Wills 1771-1780, page 409 as follows: 1777, April 13. Prudden, Peter, of Morristown, Morris Co.; will of Wife Rhoda, the use of my plantation till my son, Peter, is of age, after which she is to have 1/2 the profits and Pd.100. The rest of estate to be sold, and divided between my son and daughter. Peter to have 3 parts and Johanna 1 part. If the children die, then my wife is to have 1/2 of the share; if she be not living, then I give it to Boyce Prudden, and Rhoda, the daughter of Mary Axtell, and the other 1/2 to the children of my brother, Benjamin, which he had by his first wife, so that his daughter, Sarah, and each of his sons have 2 parts to each, the other daughters one part. Executors-wife, Rhoda, and Silas Condict. Witnesses-Shadrack Haywood, Isaac Prudden, Rachel Prudden. Proved May 3, 1777 Lib. 18, p. 315.∼He married Rhoda Condict ( of Peter, Phebe Dodd), and they are both shown in the First Presbyterian Church, Morristown, NJ records for the graveyard. Their children were: Peter, 1764; Rhoda: 1766-1773; Joanna,1768; Phebe, 1770-1776; Annie, 1772;Elias, 1774-1791; and Phebe,2nd,b. 1776. Rhoda married 2nd, Daniel Riggs, 1778. She died Morristown, April 10,1818 @ 87. Condit Family Association genealogy books at page 199 (1916 edition).
