Peter Reasor

It's not known when Peter Reasor migrated to Virginia from Pennsylvania, but he was in Fincastle County, Virginia, 1772 evidenced by court records with name spelled Razor.

Entry book B, Page 203, Montgomery county, Virginia 1785, April 26. Peter Razor enters by virtue of a preemption Warrant assigned to him by James Newell 500 acres on the south fork of Holston River joining Ruben Debar and Michael Plankerpichers and Joshua Jones. surveyed.

Court held for Washington County March 18, 1778**A Jury sworn to try the cause depending between the common wealth of Virginia Plaintiff & Peter Reazor Defendant Viz. William Bowen, James Kerswell, Robert Wilson, David Ward, James Fowler, John Rodgers, John Logan, Abraham Goodpasture, Thomas Price, Thomas Berry, John Cusick and George Finley, Returned verdict for Plaintiff and assess the damage at one hundred pounds and two years imprisonment and his expense s to be discharged out of his fine which is ordered to be recorded.At a court continued an d held for Washington County March 20, 1778**Ordered that Peter Reasor remain in custody of the Sheriff until next court when he is to find security [bail bond] for his good behaviour and not to depart out of Washington & Montgomery counties for two years and one half.A t a court held for Washington County May 19, 1778**James Dysart & Francis Kincannon in court undertakes for Peter Reazor for [insurance of] his good behaviour and that he will not depart out of the counties of Montgomery & Washington for two & one half years without leave of t he court whereof the said Peter Reazor acknowledged his recognizance [bond] in the sum of 25 0 and each of his securities in the sum of 125 each upon condition that the said Peter Reazor be of good behaviour to all the good people of this commonwealth and depart not the bound s above specified then this recognizance to be void otherwise to remain in full force and virtue. Judge William CampbellCourt held for Washington County May 20, 1779**Common Law New Causes - Gasper Kinder vs Peter At a court held for Montgomery County November 7, 1780 **Peter Raizor being brought before the court on suspicion of being an enemy to the United States, and upon examining Sundry witnesses the court were of opinion that he be bound to appear at Washington November court as most of the witnesses live in that county and that he be admitted to bail himself to be bound in the sum of Five Thousand Pounds and each, whereupon th e said Peter acknowledged himself indebted [bonded] to the Commonwealth of Virginia in the sum of five Thousand pounds and William Love and Henry Patton in the sum of Two thousand and five hundred each, to be levied of their respective goods and chattels lands and tenements an d the said commonwealth rendered yet upon condition that if the said Peter Raizer do appear a t Washington November court next and do not depart without leave of the said court, then thi s recognizance [bond] to be void otherwise to remain in force. Court held for Washington Co unty November 23, 1780**On an information against Peter Reasor for offences injurious to th e United States of America it is the opinion of the court that the said Peter Reasor enter in to recognizance for his appearance at next court whereupon he together with Jacob Young and P aul Whistenhunt his securites entere into and acknowledged their bond in the sum of forty thousand pounds that is to say the said Peter Reasor in the sum of twenty thousand pounds and ea ch of his securities in the sum of ten thousand pounds of their respective goods and chattles yet upon this condition that the said Peter Reasor personally appear at the next court to b e held for this county and abide by and perform the judgment of the court and depart not with out leave then this obligation to be void else to remain in full force and virtue.At a cour t held for Washington County March 21, 1781**Upon the oath of Jinckin Williams it is the opinion of the court that Peter Pazor was not able to attend to his recognizance at this court but conditional judgement is granted in case he do not appear at next court. At a court held for Washington County May 15, 1781**Peter Reazor appearing to his recognizance it is the opinion of the court that he be discharged.

He served as a juror march 23, 1785, Montgomery county. Montgomery county: Sept 4, 1787 a wagon road was established from Coffman Glades to Razors Iron Works.

SURVEY BOOK NO. 1 PAGE 61 WYTHE COUNTY: Surveyed for Joshua Jones, Peter Razor and Benjamin John 14 acres, Treasury Warrant 10690 issued Dec 10, 1782 which was assigned to them by Rob t Adams, lying in Wythe County on the waters of the South Fork of Holston River, adjoining lands of Joshua Jones &c...Feb 18,1794.

March 6, 1797 In compliance to the order of Wythe court we Jenkon Williams, Phillip Canedy and Sherard Jam es have appraised the Estate of the deceased Peter Reasor. Appraisement is recorded in Will Book 1, Page 68 in Wythe County, Virginia. Also of record in Grayson county, VA.

Augusta County, VA records: JUDGMENTS - From 1745 . In boxes in the basement of Clerk's Office. The only ones recorded are found in Chalkley, volumes I & II. There are many more on file than are found in the Judge Chalkley abstracts; however, they are not indexed. Pierce vs. Razor--O.S. 157; N.S, 55--Bill, December, 1807. Complainants are, viz: George, Moses, Aaron, Isaac Pierce; Seth Hendrick (?), and Mary, his wife; Ezra, Thomas, Hanna Pierce, last three being infants (by Hepsaba, their mother and next friend). Joshua Jones, Pete r Razor and Benj. John owned iron works in Wythe County, and on 12th April, 1794, sold to fat her of orators and oratrixes. Joshua Jones left the commonwealth. He had sold to James Dougherty, who died, and same descended to his son Daniel. Peter Razor has died, leaving widow Anna, and children, viz: Edward Calehan(?)* and his wife; John, Ann, Christy, Daniel and Chri stina Razor. Deed 21st September, 1798, by Benjamin John and Lydia, of Washington County, t o Thomas Pierce of Wythe County, an iron ore bank on South Fork Holstein River. Proved in Washington County, 21st September, 1798.

Michael Reasor the 1732 emigrant was in Washington county, Virginia in 1777. Few records exi st for him. He married Margaret. DEED BOOK 3, PAGE 366 - April 12, 1817: Margaret Reasor relict [widow] and heir at law of Michael Reasor, deceased, of Lee County and State of Virgini a conveyed to Daniel Reasor of the county and State aforesaid, 315 acres lying on the water s of Powell River, corner to Simon Ely's land, in the Turkey Cove, for $1000. LAND BOUNTY CERTIFICATES 1651-1776: PAGE 36 - Michael Reasoner entitled to 50 acres of land agreeable t o Proclamation of the King in 1763 - Williamsburg, Feb. 14, 1774 (Dunmore). Deed Book 1, Pag e 142 - Ma7 7, 1800. Robt. Preston of Washington County, Virginia sold 315 acres of land lyi ng in Turkey Cove, adjoining Simon Ely's land, to Michael Razor of Lee County, Virginia for 100 pounds.
