Biographical Summary

"Son of Alexander Wedderburn, Esquire, was admitted advocate 1st February 1715, afterwards appointed one of the Assessors of the city of Edinburgh, and also Secretary to the Excise. On the death of Thomas Hay of Huntington, he was elevated to the bench, and took his seat as Lord Chesterhall, 24th July 1755, which he enjoyed for little more than twelve months, having died at Edinburgh on the 11th of August 1756. He is characterised as having been a man of ability of integrity of candour whose disinterested benevolence and manly spirit was adorned rather than ob secured by a remarkable degree of modesty."
