About Phares Hottenstein Moyer, Jr.
Birth: Mar. 17, 1920 Death: Nov. 2, 2008
Phares H. Moyer, 88, a lifelong Manheim area resident, quietly slipped from earth and went to Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 2, 2008. Born in Manheim, he was the son of the late Phares R. and Cora Hottenstein Moyer. Phares was a lifetime farmer in the Manheim area; he also was employed part time for fifty-seven years at the Manheim Auto Auction. He was the husband of Erla Graby Hossler Moyer, and they observed their 21st wedding anniversary in September of this year. His first wife was the late Mabel I. Wenger Moyer who died in 1986. He was a member of Hernley Mennonite Church, Manheim, and volunteered on the cemetery committee of the church. He and his wife enjoyed spending their winters in Florida.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters: Miriam J. wife of Ray Shenk of Lititz, Arlene wife of Norman Sauder of Manheim, Julia wife of Paul Clugston of Halifax, a son, P. Marlin Moyer of Manheim, a stepdaughter, Joanne wife of Allan Munro of Lebanon, fourteen grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren, and one step grandson. He was preceded in death by five brothers: Clarence, Raymond, Norman, Lloyd, and Arthur Moyer, a sister, Edna Boll, two grandsons, Gerald and Dean Shenk, and two great grandsons, Ethan and Ryan Shenk.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his memorial service from the Hernley Mennonite Church, 746 Lebanon Road, Manheim on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at 2:00 PM with Bishop Donald O. Nauman and Pastor George M. Hurst officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in Hernley Mennonite Cemetery. There will be a public viewing in the Hoffer Auditorium at Pleasant View Retirement Community, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim on Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Friends may visit with the family at the Hernley Mennonite Church on Thursday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. Please omit flowers. Those desiring may send contributions in Phares's memory to the Pleasant View Retirement Community Benevolent Care Endowment Fund, 544 North Penryn Road, Manheim, PA 17545.
