About Philip J Tanner, Sr.

Famous as the first known person killed by a mountain lion (puma, cougar, panther) in the USA. At a place called "Betty's Patch", Chester Co., PA, while purportedly examining some lumber for his saw mill. I am not sure if that was the exact circumstances, as it is known he owned a Fulling Mill at the time.

His headstone has the animal crudely inscribed on it.

Phillip Tanner's death record is one of the earliest extant records of Colonial era North America.

Phillip's will was written on 26 Jan 1750, and proved on 3 June 1751, at East Nottingham, Chester, Pennsylvania, USA

When Mary, his wife, died, she left their son Philip Tanner II a Geneva Bible.
