About Philip Taylor

Philip Pendleton & Mary Taylor (Walker) died 7 Sep 1765, in the Townsville, Granville, NC, area. Two days earlier, 5 Sep, Philip wrote his "last will and testament". The document was proved Aug, 1766. It stated that Philip Taylor willed to wife Mary the land whereon I now live with the usage of the plantation thereunto belonging (in lieu of her dower) and, at her death, to go to my son Philip Taylor, and aforesaid land containing 880 acres adjoining Howel Lewis; to son John, land on Bennett's Creek being all land I purchased of my brother William Taylor and George King, containing 735 acres; to son James Taylor, L200 Virginia money to enable him to buy a tract of land when he is of full age; if either son Philip or John die without lawful issue, my son James is to have said land as before devised; the rest of the estate which is negroes, stock, and chattels to be divided between my wife and the children I had by her and my estate kept together excepting the part given my wife which she may leave or take out as she wishes. Executors: wife and brothers Edmund Taylor, William Taylor and Joseph Taylor, friend Capt. Tom Person; witnesses Edmund Taylor, (brother-in-law) Samuel Hopkins, (sister) Ann Taylor.

The will was generous to Philip's wife, Mary (Walker). It gave no indication of his and his wfe's impending death.
