Information from Aunt Fran and mom indicates that there were 11 children. Some of the names were Ike, Adolph, Jacob (friend of Philip Hartman), Joseph, Hannah, Laura, Ray, and David. Philip emigrated from Karlsbad, Bohemia (now part of Czechoslavakia) in the 1840s. He arrived in New Orleans and went by boat up the Mississippi to St. Louis. Settled in Leavenworth, Kansas and managed a dry goods store until he joined the Confederate Army. Then after the war returned to Karlsbad to marry Lena Samish. Then settled in St. Louis where he and his brother Jacob established a general store on Walnut St. between 2nd and 3rd.
