Phil (61), a handyman, was working at a clients home in Cronje Street, Krugersdorp, when three armed men invaded the house, and shot him in the head, on the morning of 23rd May 2007.
The men gained access to the corner plot because Phil had apparently left the gates open to carry his tools into the house.
Police spokesperson, Const. Sefako Xaba, said the domestic worker was tied in the dining room, and the gardener in the house owner's bedroom.
The robbers demanded to know where the safe was, while a fourth man kept watch outside in the street.
When Phil could not tell there where the safe was kept, one of the attackers fired a shot which narrowly missed Phil, but the robber fired a second shot which hit him in the head. He passed away immediately.
The robbers located the safe in one of the bedrooms and broke it out from the closet. They also stole the gardener's bike.
The gardener managed to break free and get help.
