From Phoebe Marion Wright V.A.D. | British Red Cross
From Somewhere in France: The WWI letters of Lt. Parr Hooper 2. Oxford: October 3–November 2, 1917
There were four Wright daughters. The oldest, Phoebe Marion Wright, was probably the one Parr refers to as “manager of a hospital in France.”
From Somewhere in France: WWI Letter of Lt. Parr Hooper. Endnotes.
96 Lady Osler, writing to Harvey Cushing on Sunday, 19 August 1917, mentions that Phoebe was a V.A.D. in a Canadian hospital near Cushing; see abstract of the letter at McGill University Library, William Osler Letter Index. Cushing, in a journal entry for Sunday, 11 November 1917, when he was in Boulogne indicates that Phoebe is there working in the office of Col. [Harry Woodburne] Blaylock (deputy commissioner of the Canadian Red Cross); see Cushing, From a Surgeon’s Journal, page 255.
745 Phoebe Wright’s date of birth is provided by Ancestry.com, 1901 Census of Canada, record for Febbe [sic] Wright. Her date of death is taken from Ancestry.com, U.S., Social Security Death Index, 1935–Current, record for Phoebe Fitz.
