Phyllis Maxine Rhodes

SWISSHELM, Phyllis Maxine Was born in Springfield Ohio to Emil and Lucille (Otstot) Holaday on October 23rd 1925. She was the 4th of 5 Children Thelma (Parker), Jack, Dorothy (Haughey), Phyllis, and Eloise (Mackey). She married James W. Swisshelm on October 23, 1946 and had two children, James William Jr. and Christine Sue (Chase). She is survived by her sister Dorothy (Haughey), son James Jr., grandchildren Jennifer (Swisshelm) Allan, Eric Swisshelm, Christine (Chase) Jungbluth, Michael Chase, and five great grandchildren. She was a coveted executive secretary and bookkeeper for multiple CEO's and company Presidents. She later became a real estate broker and formed Waterville Realty in Waterville, Ohio. Upon her husband James's untimely death in 1980, she moved to the mountains of North Carolina where she built a home in the historic town of Flatrock, overlooking the Carl Sandburg National Park. In addition to daily hikes at the National Park, she took up Bridge through which she made many friends, one of which, Donald Rhodes, she married on January 1, 1996. She lived in the mountain home that she dearly loved for 31 years, and moved to the Otterbein Retirement Community in Lebanon, Ohio in 2013 with her husband Donald, who survives her. Her strength, compassion, integrity, and love of family were matched only by her incomparable efficiency and organizational skills. She passed away on December 4, 2016.
