Pierre Remy, born 1600 and wife unknown

Pierre Remy was put to death for his religious beliefs.

He had a son, Jacob Remy who eccaped from France

around 1654 to the new world.

Most of the Remys became Huguenots in the 1400s.

Huguenots were a religious order that broke away

from the Catholic Church and the Pope.

The word means "people who walk in the dark" because

they had to worship in secret.

Finally, Louis XIV began to kill all the Huguenots in France.

This lead to a mass migration of Huguenots to other countries.

This is why our ancestor, Jacob Remy, left France around 1654.

Many of our ancestors were killed because they were Huguenots, i

ncluding Jacob's father, Pierre.
