About Pointz Owsley

On 16 Nov. 1756, "Pine Owsley" was made a ward of John Owsley, his uncle. The wardship continued until Pointz came of age. On 20 Sept. 1758, John Owsley was ordered to appear at the next court and render an account of the orphan's estate.

Pointz was the only member of the family to remain in Loudoun County when all the others of his family moved to Lincoln County in the late 1780's. the earliest Loudoun County Land Tax Book for 1800 records Pointz Owsley as owner of 89 acres in the 3rd District. He retained ownership of this land until his death in 1813, in which year his widow was recorded as paying the necessary tax on the 89 acres. He appears on the 1810 census for Loudoun county (p.278) as Pines Housely, his household consisting of himself and his wife, and two children who with certainty may be identified as his only son Moses (aged 16-25) and his unmarried daughter, Ann (aged 27-45). His widow is not reflected on the 1820 Virginia census, but is named (Anne Owsley) as a resident of Shelbourne Parish, Loudoun County in 1830. The census shows a household that included two males aged 15-19, one female aged 5-9 and one aged 59-80.
