From Ancestry message boards, https://www.ancestry.com/boards/surnames.lew/1.1/mb.ashx: "An early Groton History suggest that the name Lew was Margret's last name rather than Primus' last name. Margret was Primus' first wife. Members of the Lew family believe that Margret Lew came from Cape Verde Islands off West Africa." "Since Margaret Lew is supposedly from Cape Verde and it's her surname that the family took, it might be interesting for the family to compare their DNA with others from Cape Verde and with a larger population, such as on FTDNA or 23andme or Ancestry. Cape Verde is known to have been settled in part by Portuguese Jewish families after the Inquisition."
