BIOGRAPHY Prof. Dr. Gustav Georg Rosenberger was born on 4 December 1909 in Schmalkalden. On 29 December 1942 in Hannover he married Sigrid Dun.

Dr. med. vet., Professor at the Tierärtzlichen Hochschule in Hannover at which institute he was the director of the clinic for Rinderkrankheiten (cattle diseases). Honorary doctor of the University of Vienna, of the Aristoteles University in Thessaloniki and the University of Copenhagen. Honorary member of the 'Sociedade de Medicina Veterinaria' of Sao Paulo, Brazil. He received the St. Ambrosius Medal of the city of Milan.

'Clinical Examination of Cattle' was edited by Gustav Rosenberger in collaboration with Gerrit Dirksen and was translated by Roy Mack. It was published in 1981 in Berlin and Philadelphia.

The Gustav Rosenberger Memoral Fund is a tribute to Dr. Gustav Rosenberger and is related to the World Association for Buiatrics. The last Buiatrics Conference prof. Rosenberger attended was in 1982 in Amsterdam. That meeting was very successful, also from a financial point of view. A, for those days, substantial amount of money was set aside, of which the Royal Netherlands Veterinary Association thought it belonged to the international buiatric community. The Gustav Rosenberger Memorial Fund was born, with the objective to 'further improve bovine medicine at an international level and to stimulate bovine research in the broadest sense'.

To realise that objective, bovine scientists had been awarded by grants and prizes, mainly being young scientists from South America, Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa. During the last ten years grants were offered with a value of approximately 10,000 euros each, to be used for education and research purposes.

The GRMF has been sponsored by several pharmaceutical companies over the years. Currently GRMF is sponsored by MSD Animal Health.
