Algoe Miller was born in Thames, Coromandel on 5 December 1893. His parents were Clement John Miller (1859-1912) and Alice Miller (Kerr) (1864-1906). His name Algoe is his maternal grandmother's maiden name, but from his war record it looks as if he was known as Alan. Both his parents had died by the time Algoe signed up with the Auckland Infantry Battalion during World War I, and so his older brother, Clement Charles Miller (1890-1983) is given as his next of kin. Algoe was at fighting at Gallipoli when he was wounded. He died of those wounds on board the hospital ship 'Devaraha' on 10 August 1915 and was buried at sea. Algoe was 21 years old. He is remembered on Panel 72 of the Lone Pine Memorial in Turkey (bio by Debbie McCauley, 21 March 2022).
