About Pte. Edward Alexander McKay
Edward Alexander McKay was the son of James Ross McKay and Annie McKay (née Johnston) who had married in Dunedin on 31 July 1878. His brother, David Johnston McKay, was wounded at Gallipoli, and died in Alexandra, Egypt, on 15 August 1915. Edward served with the Canterbury Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion. He was killed in action at the Somme in France on 15 September 1916. Edward is remembered on the Caterpillar Valley New Zealand Memorial (bio by Debbie McCauley, 20 January 2024).
