About Pte. Harry Victor Holmes
Harry Victor Holmes was born at New Plymouth in the Taranaki region of New Zealand's North Island on 18 January 1892, the son of John Holmes (1852-1915) and Marian Holmes (nee Hayward) (1852-1932) who had married at Dover in Kent, England, on 23 November 1872. Harry served in the Wellington Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion, during World War I. He was killed in action at Ypres on 31 July 1917.
