About Pte. James Parker Hayhoe

James Parker Hayhoe was born at Thingoe, Suffolk, England on 8 July 1879. His parents were James Ebenezer Hayhoe and Matilda Mary Ann Hayhoe (nee Stevens) who had married at Thingoe in September 1872. Sadly, both parents died young - his mother in 1883 and his father in 1884. James and his young brother Alexander both emigrated to New Zealand where James was working as a dairyman when he enlisted with the Auckland Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion, during World War I (Service No. WWI 12/3888). He was killed in action at the Somme on 30 March 1918. James was buried in the Euston Road Cemetery [IV. B. 5.] in France (bio by Debbie McCauley, 23 January 2022).
