About Pvt. Carl Link
Carl Link was born in Eugene, Oregon, on June 25, 1902. He came to the north Odessa area in 1903, was confirmed at Christ Lutheran with the class of 1919, the Rev. H. P. Christensen as instructor. Carl and his brother, John, farmed together until Carl sold his interest to his brother. He was inducted into the army in 1942, receiving a medical discharge some months later. He then bought a small farm near Rockford and sold it again two years later. Because of failing health he took up residency in a convalescent home in 1945 and died suddenly Friday afternoon. He was never married. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Helen Schmierer and Mrs. Caroline Schmierer, both of Odessa; Mrs. Clara Kelso, Seattle; two brothers, John Link, Davenport; and Dan Link, Molalla, OR. ref: Odessa Record 10 Jan 1963
