About Pvt George Washington Bowman, (USA)

George was the son of Philip Irvin Bowman and Mary Ann Fetterhoff Bowman. A Civil War veteran, at the time of his enlistment he was a farmer living in Jackson Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, and stood 5' 4" tall with brown hair and brown eyes. He enlisted in Harrisburg September 6, 1864, mustered into federal service there September 7 as a private with Co. A, 210th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company May 30, 1865. After the war, he married Lydia L. Miller and they had 7 children.

On August 18, 1886, he was working in a saw mill when the saw flung a chunk of wood, and it slammed into his abdomen. He lingered a day before succumbing to internal injuries.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Feb 13 2021, 16:38:28 UTC
