About Pvt. Jeremiah Morgan Wilson (USA)

Jeremiah M. Wilson was 20, and living in Winterset, Madison Co., Iowa, when he enlisted as a Private in Co. I of the 4th Iowa Cavalry on Sept. 24, 1862.

He was mustered into federal service on Nov. 6, 1862, and mustered out of the service on June 17, 1865, in Nashville as his term of enlistment was due to expire within 2 months.

Attended schools taught by William Kivett and JJ Hutchings, early Madison Co settlers.

Served in 4th Iowa Cavalry in Civil War. There is a story about him shooting off his finger with a French pistol that had been a gift.

After Army, traveled by ox-team to Colorado and hauled provisions and lumber to and from Pike's Peak.

Returned to Adair Co., IA and invested in land, up to 1300 acres.

Stockholder, Director and early President of Macksburg Bank.

Heavy stock holder in Winterset, Creston and Des Moines railroad.

Served in Iowa State Legislature.
