Confederate States Soldier Co A 3rd Mississippi Infantry "Live Oak Rifles"

Served under Capt James B. McRae. Jesse and his brother Bryant C Rice Jr., enlisted at Ocean Springs MS by Cpt James B McRae, mustered in at Shieldsboro, Camp Clark, Bay St Louis, Sept 27, 1861 by Lieut Hunt. Bryant was wounded when he and Jesse were both taken prisoner Nov 30, 1864 at Franklin Tenn, both sent to Camp Douglas Ill from Nov 30 1864 - June, 1865. Bryant died April 16, 1865 at Camp Douglas Ill prison of pnuemonia.

Son of Rev Bryant Columbus Rice & Mary 'Polly' Rodgers Jessie and Sarah Jane were married February 22, 1866 in Jackson Co Miss.
