About Pvt. Johannes Keck

PVT. 7 CO. 3 BATT. PA MILITIA, REVOLUTIONARY WAR.

Son of Heinrich & Hannah Catherine (Peters(on) Keck and husband of Anna Margaret (Miller) Keck. They had 11 children. The area of the Heinrich Keck homestead, where Johannes was born, was originally part of Northampton County. It is now Lehigh County.

Until 1784 Johannes lived on his father's plantation in Salisbury township. At that time Heinrich sold the original plantation of 106 acres and an additional ten acres to him. In May 1786 Johannes acquired an additional seventy-two acres, land that once belonged to his brother Georg. He lived on his farm until not too long before his death when he sold it to his brother Andreas and moved to Whitehall Township. His will, in which Anna Margaretha's brother Nicholas was named executor and in which all of his children were named, is dated 7 may 1803. it was proven on 21 October of the same year. A record of the Second Battalion of the Northampton county Militia dated 28 october 1782 lists Lr. john Keck in Captain Martin Ritter's company. Martin Ritter is believed to have been a brother of Johannes Ritter, Husband of Maria Elizabetha keck, sister of Johannes.
