Pvt. Lanier, Company A, 18th NC Regiment. Brother of Elkanah and Jacob, both of whom were executed for desertion in Sept,1863. Google the article, "Apples and Green Corn" to read of the brothers' unjust courtmartials and deaths. Joseph enlisted on August 14, 1862 into Company A. 18th Regiment, NC Troops. Died in hospital in Richmond, Va of scrofula (tuberculosis of the lymph glands of the neck).
