About Pvt. Philip B Porter, (USA)

Philip was born in Irwin Township, the last child of his father, Isaac B. Porter who died in 1839. Along with brothers and sisters, Philip was raised by his mother, Christena Jane Walter Porter who married his step-father, Philip Ghost/Coast Jr. in 1840. On March 9, 1864, Philip joined the Army and served in Company D, 6th Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery until his discharge in June of 1865. In 1869, Philip married Christina Jane Day, daughter of John and Anna Mary Arner Day of Butler County. Philip and Christina were the parents of eleven children: Alice Day (McCandless), Mary Ann, William B., Harriett Theresa (Ellison), Florence (Crouch), Charles E., Floyd D., Braden, Ebert, John and an unnamed infant.
