Roy V. Runk, 49, Cashtown, Father Of 12, Fatally Injured When Car Upsets Early Today
Roy Victor Runk, Cashtown, 49-year-old father of 12 children, was fatally injured this morning at 5 o'clock when his car left the road and overturned three miles west of here along the Lincoln Highway. Dr. C. G. Crist, Adams County coroner, said the death was caused by a fractured skull, a broken neck and internal injuries. State police said they believed Mr. Runk fell asleep while driving toward home. His 1951 Pontiac sedan left the highway, turned over on an embankment and rolled back on the highway coming to rest on its roof. The car was demolished with damage estimated at $250. A World War II veteran, Runk had served with the 703rd Engineers at Fort George G. Meade, Md., from March 27, 1944 to June 20, 1944. He was a truck driver and had operated trucks for W. Hess out of East Berlin. A native of York County, he was born April 21, 1909, a son of Wesley and Cora Shue Runk. He was a member of Dub's Lutheran Church, Hanover R.D. Survivors include his widow, the former Dolores Bolin, and twelve children: Victor Runk, East Berlin R.D. 1; Mrs. Barbara Myers, Dillsburg; Kenneth Runk, at home; Mrs. Phyllis Watson, Hanover R.D. 4, and Shirley, Ronald, Gene, Donna, Gary, Linda, Gerald and Larry Runk, all at home. Also surviving are six grandchildren and four brothers; Clayton Runk, Littlestown, and Robert, Ralph and Paul Runk, all of Hanover. Funeral services Friday morning at 10 o'clock from the Peters Funeral Home, Carlisle St., with the Rev. Dr. Paul L. Reaser officiating. Interment will be in the National Cemetery.
